Yes... It is the distant future, and CDs are no more... But their departure has left a gaping void in our collective psyche. It is an age of efficiency, no denying it... You can shop from your home, eat from your phone, design your kitchen on a magnetic train... But as you scroll n scroll thru your phone to pick the next tune it slowly dawns that something has been lost... Damn if there isn't still something missing - that special - something - to hold close - press to your heaving breast - admire from every angle and dapple with soft kisses... Oh God!

I got you covered. Instead of sinking a lot of time and money into getting CDs printed, I sunk a whole lot of time and money into making pretty lil booklets! Tis the result of many many hours of me jiggling about listening to Fela Kuti and snipping up art auction catalogues. Each of the songs has its own artwork, typewritten lyrics, scrawled notes, and is printed on lovely glossy paper that makes you feel good to look at. Tasty.

Let's start it up again No use looking for the reasons With a head so sour & slow Another season going And all those weeks behind us Doing oh-I-don't-know And things'll have to wait a while After all, not old enough to care yet Can't be sure we'll make it over After all, not true enough to swear yet And always there's the feeling I know we're on our way but we're Not there yet Still I'd rather sing in stations than rely on something tried & true where you know the ending Puts a strain on these relations, sure, we've drifted in and out But then we do our mending And it's you, love I know you'll keep me sane I'll go on working for pennies If it leads to some kinda change I might run off from time to time But I won't run away I'll stay, dear, I'll stay, Some day But it'll have to wait a while After all, not old enough to care yet Can't be sure we'll make it over After all, not true enough to swear yet But always there's the feeling I know we're on our way but we're Not there yet
2.
You tell me that you're moving To some other kind of life Well I'm just here to see you off, I won't be twisting in the knife Here's to all the summer And those sunny kinds of lies I see you never quite forgot me But I've heard it all by now We're just pretending that the distance will be like some kind of kiss Like the sunlight in the window Of what used to be our house But let's refrain from taking names away just now Say it enough and it's bound to come true We'll play it to the end, I don't care what we drew Go off then sweet silly, go do what you do You won't have to come back crawling, come back any way you want to You want to go to California Look for heaven in L.A. Or else go flying out to China just to fully fill your time Cause your life is flowing out you Like you're throwing it away So what's your favourite kinda weather Do you live for sun or snow? Or are you only ever dreaming of some other kinda scene Where you'll always be a stranger And the people talk in code And no one has to miss you when you go Say it enough and it's bound to come true We'll play it to the end, and I don't care what we drew Go off then sweet silly, go and do what you do You won't have to come back crawling, come back any way you want to
3.
Hello, stranger Hello, dear Where did you run off to What's with all the empty years I guess it's gotten hazy now It used to be so clear So did you ever get that break Or did it end in tears Hello, stranger Hello old friend Not long back we were one of us And now we're one of them You tore up all my paper And I ran off with your pen We went so very far away We can't go home again Oh it's been getting stranger every day to be with you I'm forgetting something Some old picture that we drew But here's the things we talk about And there's the things we do It's getting stranger every day between us two Hello, stranger Hello, me Seems you're getting tied down By the thing that set you free Something missing in the mirror That your eyes weren't made to see And here I'm rooting for you Like some hero on TV Oh it's been getting stranger every day with you But I don't think it's the distance The directions that we grew Just some things that we said were false And other things were true It's getting stranger every day between us two

You're gone again Can't see for all the paper Don't know where the hell it ends All our love and all our fire And you're down there getting high While I'm stewing here as usual in my pen It's all the same Sick of looking for the story From my lonely swamp of paint You've all worked it out just fine With your glances and your lines So I'll stay here with the voices and the names You say you like me but I'm not so sure you like me Cause why the hell's this place always so empty Why do you all your friends seem so unfriendly You say you like me but I'm not so sure you like me But take your time Really there's no special hurry I am paralysed and blind If you see me in the morning I'll be me and nothing more If you dig me up and give me back my eyes You say you like me but I'm not so sure you like me Cause why the hell's this place always so empty Why do you all your friends seem so unfriendly You say you like me but I'm not so sure you like me You say you like me but I think you wanna blind me And like an idiot I just wait for you to want me Like you want each other thing you see beside me Like you want me out so they won't have to know me Like you wanna live your life and never show me You say you like me but I doubt you ever liked me
5.
You wake up with a headache You wake up all alone Her smell still on your pillow Her pictures on your phone You spend the weekend in your head You can't sleep if you try Every time you're left alone You crumble down & cry But please don't go hurting yourself no more than she hurt you Please don't go turning any corners in the dark Please don't turn against the thing that's gonna cure you Really you've been doing fine so far I know you must be broken I know it must be bad You went and lost the only thing You really wanted to have But I'll come by with a bottle And we'll drink the night away And till you want me out of there Well, don't you know I'll stay But please don't go hurting yourself no more than she hurt you Please don't go turning any corners in the dark Please don't turn against the thing that's gonna cure you Really you've been doing fine so far

I was waiting for someone to know me So I spent all summer growing out my hair I been swimmin in this river Now I'm drifting out A bit washed up but I don't care You said and I said and something in the middle but it's all the same scene It's like we're filling our lives with type Some kinda waiting-room magazine And it's getting so lazy So please don't make me talk It's a little bit hazy Let's just save it for the fall Like a ferris wheel burning in a colourless city I'm bound to catch some blame You say that we're changing But I still feel the same I got my empty horizons
My midsummer solstice My vanished alphabets While you ride out the tide Through the fourth of July I'll still stuck inside this bed But it's getting so lazy So please don't make me talk It's a little bit hazy Let's just save it for the fall

Wake up in the morning feeling like a dead hamster You ask me how I'm doing - come on babe, you know the answer You ask me if I wanna go and get some pho Baby you're amazing best idea I ever heard I'm feeling like the devil I'm feeling like a skull I'm feeling like a crab that's gettin eaten by a seagull But I won't worry baby It's all easy streats from now We gonna go & get some pho you gonna show me how Aw baby that's it That's how I know you're pho real Aw baby that's it That's how you know I'm pho sure Feeling like a desert from ours up the the pho place All I know is you're a girl I never would replace You showed me where the bus was, you hooked me up with juice I like the way you're thinking babe, I like the things you do First we're walking one block and then we walk another And then we take a break so we can make out with each other The hardest day that any man has ever had to live But we're finally getting closer, baby, something's gotta give Aw baby that's it That's how I know you're pho real Aw baby that's it That's how you know I'm pho sure I feel it deep inside me, I see it in between us Damn, damn, girl, you some kinda genius? You keep on asking me how I've been I keep saying fine waking up in the morning time going to bed at night Some days I get some living done Some days I just survive Today I'll be out hiding till I aint got nothing left to hide Just putting in my time And if you wanna go Just come with me And if you wanna know Well I don't know And if you wanna stay Well, buh bye dear! But if you're happy here Why don't you say so? I've lost & fond the thread so much It's getting hard to care Seems there's starts and ends of threads Just growing everywhere Maybe today I'll learn to swim Or else I'll learn to fly It seems we're living whim to whim And we're just making up the signs Putting in our time And if you wanna go Just come with me And if you wanna know Well I don't know And if you wanna stay Well, buh bye dear! But if you're happy here Why don't you say so? Daddy I've been paying rent Mummy I've been good I tried to say all the things I meant And mean the things I should I guess that you've been watching me Growing up online But don't you go and think too much About this silly life of mine Just putting in my time And if you wanna go Just come with me And if you wanna know Well I don't know And if you wanna stay Well, buh bye dear! But if you're happy here Why don't you say so?

There was the sun hung low And the smell of charcoal Little embers on the mountain On the island, somewhere out off The Atlantic coast There were the things we had The things we needed most Took our act up north Through the old Arab forts We rearranged our faces To contain the different places We were passing through We made everything to look the way We wanted to But it looks like you've been running
off the track again Cause nothing ever happens only once go sing it but don't try and bring it back again Forget it now, go put it in a song And so you wake each day To something fading away Some person that you see Someone else you used to be When you could make it real Like a thing you touch, Not just a thing you feel But it looks like you've been running
off the track again And nothing ever happens only once Go sing it but don't try and bring it back again Forget it now, go put it in a song But then everybody plays At making songs these days So to hell with all the numbers Go on over, go on under Go on off again You don't have the time Don't have to make it rhyme

about

This little slew came about in the late summer of 2015. I wrote the songs and came up with the arrangements in a kind of happy summer burst and then kept them secret all winter. Hush hush! The songs are fun. The sunny days are back on their way in and they could do with a soundtrack. "A bit washed up, but I don't care..." Eh?

Dig em sweet,

Robert
